Lucy & hannah Betts
Life with Harlequin ichthyosis
When I came across Lucy and Hannahs story on Youtube a year ago following up on my friend Jennifer Funk Hiles. My heart literally felt like it dropped out of my chest for these two. I was in complete shock that people had to suffer with a life long sentence such as this. My heart was breaking watching the video and seeing the painful regime they had to go through everyday in order to try and live a semi-normal life. The immense scrubbing, creaming and other daily things they went through just to be able to survive. It makes you wonder where is God and why does he let things like this happen to people.
I think I heard it best explained in the movie FACING THE GIANTS. "God made you so small, so that through you he can show the world how mighty he is" The same thought can be applied in cases like this or with Nick Vujicic. God allows for us to be born this way or to go through the things we have to go through in order to use us in his master plan to show how mighty he is.
I find Lucy so inspiring. She is the oldest living Harlequin Ichthyosis survivor in the UK. She is doing her best to live a half way normal life, she is very happy and enjoys working with Special Needs Children. That is why I find Lucy and Hannah to be another one of my great inspirations. They are Harlequin Warriors trying their best to live a life as normal as humanly possible.
