Robin Williams tragic passing
August 11, 2015 was a sad day for the acting community and fans of this incredibly talented and well love comedian. Famous for movies such as.....Aladdin, Bicentennial Man, Flubber, Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting, Jack, Night at the Museum, Man of the Year, Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams, RV and many more great movies. The tabloid wrote how Robin took his own life by hanging himself in his stepson bedroom. Simply stating he was severely depressed. What most tabloids and news media stations failed to mention is that this beloved actor and comedian was undiagnosed to have a form of Dementia known as Lewy Body. Discovered nearly 100 years ago in 1923 by Friedrich Lewy a German Neurologist.
Williams however was misdiagnosed and treated for Parkinsons which actor Michael J. Fox is well known for having and suffering from most of his life. Williams took Sinemet which is used to treat symptoms of Parkinsons such as (muscle stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control). You can clearly read the dangerous side effects of this medication yourself and see what it can cause. Just to name a few (Insomnia or sleep problems, involuntary muscle spasms, increased depression, hallucinations and thoughts of suicide just to name a few).
To treat the depression that Robin supposedly already had but was increased by Sinemet. Antidepressants he took included (Remeron, Mirtazapene, and Seroquel). The first two are basically the same medication with the same SIDE EFFECTS <<<----click here to see them. Ok so now we are prescribing an anti-depressant which has many of the same side effects as Sinemet but also causes muscle stiffness, which is why he is taking Sinemet in the first place. Yet the Sinemet causes depression. Ok makes complete sense now.
Now you add on a secondary anti-depressant Seroquel <<---(see side effects here) with many of the same side effects as the first two medications, including muscle spasms and stiffness as well as increased risk of death if you are older and already have dementia which remember that is what he technically had. Now you add in the fact that this one also effects your sleep patterns and hallucinations and you must add a fourth medication.
Which brings us to Clonazepam it helps to improve REM Sleep Behavior. <<<---- Click here to read about REM. Clonazepam has the most ridiculous laundry list a mile long of SIDE EFFECTS <<<-----Click here for the side effects. Some including but not limited to (Increased anxiety and depression, muscle weakness, loss of memory, severe mood and mental changes, vivid dreams, and so much more). Now how about the interactions. This drug is not to be given to people with alcohol addictions which Williams struggled with throughout his life. Nor should it be given to people with manic depression or tendencies to want to commit suicide..all which Robin had due to the increased side effects of his medications.
All this begs to ask the question. Why are people knowingly taking their medications knowing the risk and I have yet to mention the increased cancer risk of most medications. Knowing that a simple change in lifestyle such as eating habits and exercise could possibly help improve most of if not all of these problems. It is so sad that the world lost such a talented, sweet and laugh out loud funny man, knowing something could have possibly been done to fix this.
I have included a few of my favorite quotes by Robin as well as comments section below. Please feel free to leave me a comment on how this article impacted you.
